Pottery wheel throwing – Monday/Wednesday evening class
Whether you’re wanting to take your pottery to the next level or having a go at throwing on the potters’ wheel for the first time our evening class is for you. Pottery Wheel throwing will cover all the basics of working on the potters’ wheel.
During the eight sessions we will cover all the basics of pottery technique – clay preparation, bowl and cylindrical throwing, turning, handling and decoration. Mondays pottery wheel throwing class is aimed at designed at all skill levels, Wednesday evening is aimed at improvers.
Our goal is that students are offered the widest range of support and experience they can be during their time at the studio, with both Hamish and Jack being experienced exhibiting potters. Students will be supported in the technical processes of making on the wheel as well as encouraged to explore visual ideas in form, mark and decoration. Pottery is an art form and we aim to equip or students with all the tools to make the most of this wonderful material.
The class is taught in a buff stoneware clay mixed by Jack from 3 Devon and Dorset ball clays. Students will have the option to keep a selection of the work produced on the course at a cost of £2 per 500cm cubed (Approx £5 for a mug of small bowl) . Students will get to choose from a selection of stoneware glazes for their selected items which will then be reduction fired in Jack 45 cubic foot reduction kiln.
